SUMMIT TRACKS & SCHEDULE
14th & 15th June 2020 (Venue: Scandic Fornebu Hotel, Oslo, Norway)
Track 1: Peacefulness of Mind through Education

This track addresses how pedagogy based on mindfulness-based methods may contribute toward the well-being of students, and reduce stress and strengthen qualities such as empathy and compassion, both to create an environment suited for learning and to give students knowledge and skills for mastering life. You will be introduced to different programmes and methods including practical examples of how the methodology may be integrated into school settings at different levels, ranging all the way from kindergarten to higher education. Importantly you will have the opportunity to try and experience first-hand the practice of peacefulness through such methods.

Track 2: Cognitive and Brain Science in Education

This track focuses on scientific support for a number of beneficial effects of mindfulness-based pedagogy, in particular from the disciplines of neuroscience, psychology and pedagogy. You will learn about how mindfulness-based methods can affect the brain. Equally, you will be presented with research into experienced well-being, stress reduction and mental health, empathy and peer relations, and more. Through this track’s workshops you will have the opportunity to dive deeper into the effects of particular methods, in different settings and for different age groups.

Track 3: Peace with Nature through Education

This track looks at how mindfulness-based methods can be effective in developing peace with nature through education. The track deals with how peacefulness, including self-respect and well-being, when cultivated in an educational setting, may contribute towards care for others and our environment. It also deals with how students can become resilient through mindfulness-based approaches, thus enhancing the ability to engage in care for nature without being swayed by negative external influences. You will learn and experience suitable practices and how they may be implemented in a school setting.

Track 4: Mental Health Policies and Life Mastering Skills in Education

This track focuses on public policy towards strengthening students´ mental health and life-mastery skills, potentially reducing negative consequences of stress and creating harmonious learning environments with empathic students. The focus is on policies related to mindfulness-based pedagogy towards this end, in particular on important elements to include in such policies and teaching plans, and what is needed to make these work in practice. You will be presented with experiences from countries in the forefront in this area, including from the United Kingdom and Sweden.
